The world's first university on cooperation; Tribhuvan Sahakari University, Anand, Gujarat.
On 1st April 2025, the central minister of state for cooperation Mr. Murlidhar Mohol declared in Rajyasabha that after passing the bill in Loksabha and Rajyasabha, the government has established "Tribhuvan Sahakari University" as the first national university for studies in Cooperation in India. It is also the first university in the world of similar kind. The present Institute of Rural Management, Anand will be its first college under this university.
The Minister said the rural economy will play a major role in realising the goal of making India the third-largest economy in the world in 2047. He said there are eight lakh cooperative institutions that are functional in the country in which over 30 crore people are engaged. He said, this vast number reflects that one member of every farmer’s family is linked with cooperatives. He said that since the inception of the Ministry of Cooperation, several initiatives have been taken to strengthen the cooperative sector in the country. He said the bill will promote cooperative spirit in the country.
The university is named after the Late Gandhian Shri Tribhuvan Patel who has pioneering work done by establishing Amul Dairy along with Technocrat Dr. Kurian Verghese. The university will be available for studies in Cooperation, rural management, cooperative Finance, administration etc.
In Maharashtra, there is a Vaikuntha Mehta national institute for cooperative management in Pune as well Dr. Vithhalrao Vikhe Patil institute of Cooperative management, Pune.
